Evekeo was originally marketed by Arbor Pharmaceuticals for ADHD. By Gregg L. Friedman MD
My 7 year old daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD 2 months ago and we are currently trying medication to help with her focus and hyperactivity. We tried Evekeo for 1 day and it was obvious this is not the medication for my daughter. My daughter actually told me “I don’t feel like me right now.” We gave her the pill at 8am and the side effects lasted until about midnight. She had no appetite, was groggy and tired all day but could not go to sleep, and did not want to move from the couch. She had no desire to play or even converse with me or her little sister. My daughter seemed emotionless for most of the day.
I started taking Evekeo after experience significant crash-and-burn from my otherwise amazingly helpful adderall. Evekeo has been the most helpful ADHD medication I have tried (also been on adderal immediate release many times over the last 20yrs and have tried the XR as well as vyvanse). I have no negative symptoms when on Evekeo but sadly built a tolerance over about 9 months and it stopped working for me. I was surprised to build a tolerance so quickly as I only took it on work days, usually just once, and I am normally quite sensitive to medications. I was prescribed Evekeo 10mg 2x/day but as I mentioned, I usually only took it once a day and only on week days (with the guidance of my doctor, of course).
I’ve always had sleeping issues. Usually it’s the fact that my brain won’t stop. I’m not lying there worrying. I hate to say “I hear voices” it’s more like things I heard that day are bouncing around up there in my head. I can’t make it stop. White noise sometimes helps. It seems to have gotten worse with the Evekeo I started taking three weeks ago. It seems to work well, but I think it must be making the insomnia worse.
Another side effect of the medication he is on now (Evekeo/Lexapro) it takes forever for him to fall asleep and then he wakes up around 3am (almost like clockwork) and can’t fall back to sleep.
I was put on Evekeo about 4 months ago and I absolutely love it. I only take it when I want to, and if I don’t take it there is no side effect. It can also be split into 4 so I can take as little as 1/4 of a tablet if I only want to be focused for a short time. It is amazing the change that one little pill can do for my focus, and other executive functions. It is like I am a new person.
My son started about a month ago and is doing awesome! He’s tried three other medications and although some worked, he suffered headaches, irritability, and appetite suppression. Makes me happy to see my son’s ADHD controlled without any backlash with side effects!
