Episode Description

The start of a new school year brings change upon change, transition upon transition — all of which pose outsized challenges for students with ADHD. Anxiety may lead to distractibility, which interferes with attention and learning. Or it may lead to impulsivity and hyperactivity — a bad combination in the classroom. During discussions, a student with ADHD may frequently interrupt or distract other students or lose focus. He may act before he thinks, leading to unforeseen aggression. Or she may release her energy by talking with neighbors who are trying to work.

In other words, there are many ways in which ADHD symptoms may interfere with a child’s ability to make academic progress, and impede learning for the entire class. As a result, students with ADHD are often socially isolated and bullied; teachers and parents are frequently trying to make positive changes — fast. Fortunately, research-based strategies can ease the path to success.

In this webinar, teachers and parents will learn:

  1. Why typical behavior plans don’t work for students with ADHD
  2. Three guidelines for managing ADHD behavior at school
  3. How technology can help manage behavior
  4. How to keep distracted kids on task
  5. The benefits of “fidgets”
  6. Five ways to manage excess energy
  7. Strategies for dealing with “rude” behavior and impulsivity
  8. When teachers should get help
  9. What parents can do to reinforce good behavior at home
